Frequently asked questions
What is included in the total price of a hotel stay?
The total is the nightly room rate times the number of nights, plus taxes, any resort or destination fee charged per night, and extras such as parking or breakfast. Many booking pages show the room rate first and add the rest at checkout.
What is a resort fee?
A resort fee (also called a destination, facility or amenity fee) is a mandatory daily charge some hotels add on top of the room rate. It often covers things like Wi-Fi, the pool or the gym. Check the hotel's own page or the final checkout screen to see it.
Are hotel taxes charged per night or per stay?
It depends on the city. Some places charge a percentage of the room rate, others a fixed amount per person or per room per night. Enter a percentage here, and add any fixed city tax under extras for the most accurate total.
Does the calculator save or send my numbers?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
How can I lower the total cost of a hotel stay?
Compare the full price, not the headline rate; check whether breakfast or parking is cheaper nearby; and book a free-cancellation rate so you can rebook if the price drops.
