The 5 Best Restaurants on the Cote d’Azur

It’s the place to head to if you’re looking for sun, sea and sand, but while you’re lapping up the luxury in the Cote d’Azur, you’ll be spoiled for choice from fantastic restaurants too. Whatever your tastes, sample some of the finest cooking in the South of France with our guide to some of the French Riviera’s best restaurants.

Sanglier Paresseux

Situated high in the hills above Apt, Sanglier Paresseux is a real highlight of Luberon, offering some truly amazing views and a breath-taking sunset ea
ch evening. It would be easy for a restaurant of this calibre to become stuffy, but Sanglier Paresseux is a refreshingly casual affair, serving up simple and charming dishes created from some of the finest local ingredients. One of the highlights includes winter guinea fowl served with local morels and topped with truffles which are shaved at your table. It’s well worth the slightly inconvenient drive!

Sea Sens

Cannes might be renowned for its film festival and glamour, but it knows how to do a good restaurant too! The new kid on the block in the culinary world, Sea Sens is located on the 5th floor of the Five Hotel and is run by the renowned Pourcel brothers, and helped along by pastry-chef maestro Jérôme de Oliveira, who can whip up a mean dessert. Combining French cuisine with Asian elegance, the restaurant offers some incredible panoramic views of the Cannes rooftops as well as Le Suquet.

You’ll be spoiled for choice from the great selection of dishes on offer, but if you only try one thing make sure it’s the ‘Onde de Choc’ – De Oliveira’s signature dessert. A must for anyone with a sweet tooth, this pear-shaped chocolate tower is filled with chocolate and praline. It doesn’t come cheap though, so be sure to take advantage of the deals on offer at lunch time.

Bacon

Situated in Cap d’Antibes, Bacon comes recommended by the Daily Telegraph restaurant guide. Don’t let the name fool you though – this restaurant only serves up fish dishes. They really are delicious though, and it’d be a crime to miss out on the salade de poisson cru (raw fish salad) followed by mini bouillabaisse and then vanilla millefeuille with wild strawberries. All washed down with a glass of the region’s finest chilled white wine, of course!

Auberge de Courmes

Perfect if you’re looking to escape the busy tourist resorts, this charming village inn restaurant in the hamlet of Courmes is nestled at the foot of the mountains. There are only two starters, two mains and two desserts on offer each day at this family-run restaurant, but they are always exquisite. Be sure to book though, as it does get very busy at weekends. You can stay here too, but there are also plenty of villas like these here on offer in the region.

Le Chantecler

For a true gourmet experience, nowhere does it better than Le Chantecler on the Nice seafront. You’ll feel like royalty at this two-Michelin-starred restaurant, and there’s a great selection of appetisers, palate cleansers and petits fours on offer here, whipped up by the talented locally-trained chef, Jean-Denis Rieubland. The perfect place to splash out, a sommelier will also be on hand to lend expertise and recommend the perfect bottle to accompany your meal.
