General Route Description
From the inner city you need to get on the Eastern Distributor Rd to Southern Cross Drive which goes out of the city via the airport. At the end of Southern Cross Drive a lot of people get into into a right hand lane because they're going to the airport, but you don't, you keep to the left hand side which goes up over a two-lane over-pass, and is signposted for Wollongong.
Head down Highway 1 from Sydney going through Rockdale (which has pretty cheap petrol) and Kogarah. After about an hour you'll go past Wollongong. If you come down from the Southern Highlands you will probably come out at Albion Park Rail (which has some of the cheapest petrol in the SE), south of Wollongong. After another half hour or so you'll go past Kiama (worth a stop for it's pretty shops and blowhole). The next town of interest is Berry which has lots of interesting antique shops. Keep going on the main road to Nowra, and continue on this road right through the town. If you like old houses, you could follow the signs (turning right off the main road) to Meroogal, a National Trust property. After Nowra go straight through the South Nowra trade area, and about 5 km after the sign to H.M.A.S. Albatross you'll see a sign to Jervis Bay. Follow the sign by turning left off the highway, and about 7 km after the emu farm (well worth a look), you'll turn left to Huskisson (signposted). Drive through Huskisson, noting the old picture theatre on the right, and the beautiful harbour on the left. Turn right at the roundabout opposite the pub (signposted to Vincentia), and take the second road on the left (Nowra St). Go to the end of this, and we're the last house on the right, just before the right hand bend. You should see the bay directly in front of you, if you don't you're lost. |
