The hotel owes its name to the ancient city of XIFOUPOLIS. The whole area of, what today is known as XIFIAS, used to be the ancient XIFOUPOLIS. Interestingly enough, one of the very first residents of XIFIAS was an English man back in 1957. Nowadays many Germans and British nationals have bought their own houses in the area enjoying not only the scenery but also one of the best climates someone can get.
All the rooms are equipped with a kitchenette, which make them ideal for those interested in self-catering accomodation or long vacation rentals. The rooms are also equipped with air-conditioning (heating -cooling), internet access (dial-up) and have large balconies with stunning sea & mountain views, overlooking the famous Castle of Monemvasia. The one bedroom apartments have a total floor area of 48 square meters (500 square feet) and a dining area, which can accomodate up to 4 persons. The studio flats and the double rooms have a total area of 28 square meters (300 square feet) and can accomodate up to 3 persons. All the rooms are furnished with high quality furniture in modern style.
The indoor bar of Hotel Xifoupolis have full facilities and may provide drinks and light lunch to the residents. Breakfast is included in the room prices. Just 100 yards (90 meters) from the hotel there is a convenience store, handy for the everyday needs, and also the best tavern of the area, offering traditional Greek food at excellent prices. Sitting on a huge cliff-ringed rock, washed by the sea on three sides and connected to land by a small pontoon on the fourth, the Byzantine town of Monemvasia has as unlikely and enthralling a setting as you could wish for. Its tight-packed, cream-stone houses are immaculately preserved within the formidable walls, many of them now renovated by rich Athenians as stylish guesthouses. Above them rears the Gibraltar-like rock, crowned by more walls, crumbling chapels and countless cisterns and vaults for the huge army which once occupied this prime viewpoint.
Monemvassia or Monemvasia or Malvasy is a medieval fortress with an adjacent town. Nowadays, the fortress has become a world wide visit attraction in which visitors have the opportunity to see its defensive structures, the small adjacent town and many Byzantine churches.
The founding of the fortress of Monemvasia occured in the 6th Century AD, when people from the close by villages were seeeking refuge from the Slavic invasion of Greece.
In recent times, Monemvasia is a thriving community with ever increasing level of tourists.
The visitors to Monemvasia may arrange daily trips to nearby places of interest, such as the famous 'Caves of Dyros' (41 miles), the beautiful lagoon of Gerakas (12 miles), the fortress of Mystras (52 miles) among others. For the romantic couples, the Castle of Monemvasia offers something extra-ordinary, with restaurants and bars looking over the sea and stunning views at dawn. Last but not least, the numerous small traditional Greek villages where anyone can enjoy the relaxing nature of the unspoilt environment that the area can offer.
There are two international airports that you should try, if you visit Monemvasia, in Athens and Kalamata.
Apart from the scheduled flights from UK to Athens and Kalamata Airports,
between May and October there are charter flights from London to Kalamata on Sundays only by Air 2000.

The complex of apartments Xifoupolis Hotel is 5 kilometers ( 3 miles) from the city of Monemvasia. When you arrive in Monemvasia city center, you simply take the road heading south. When you leave Monemvasia you will see signs for 'KASTELA' and 'AGIA PARASKEVI'. Follow the signs for 'KASTELA' and when you reach a junction take the direction for 'XIFIAS'. After 1.5 kilometres you will see 'AKTI NEFELI HOTEL'. Keep going and after 150 meters you will see 'Xifoupolis Hotel' on your right hand side.
