Plovdiv, situated along the two banks of the river Mariitsa, lies in the largest, the warmest and the most fertile lowland in the whole Balkan Peninsula – The Thracian plain. In Plovdiv the hills, decorated with greenery and old –time houses always surround you.
The Plovdiv Old Town (2nd century Roman theatre, 17th and 19th centuries colrful buildings) is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In Plovdiv you can see the gold Thracian treasure of Panagyurishte – 6 kg of pure gold – of the Thracian art from the 4th century and the beginning of 3rd century BC, the Roman Forum, the Roman Stadium.
The old houses and churches from the period of Bulgarian national Revival are not less interesting to visit.
The cultural life of Plovdiv is active and various throughout the year. Prestigious international festivals are organized in the city: Festival of Verdi music, International festival of chamber music, International theatre festival “Scene on the cross-road”, International festival of folklore, The Autumn Salon of arts and a lot other. Plovdiv is called the city of painters.
It is a pleasure to visit Plovdiv art galleries, small cafeterias in the streets, restaurants offering tasty Bulgarian dishes and drinks.
For sport and exercise there are many locations available to enjoy them. A unique sports complex including a stadium, a rowing complex (the largest on the Balkans), indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts are located in Plovdiv.
For business: The International Plovdiv fairs – Spring and Autumn are traditional since the end of the past century. There is a good business climate in the city. A lot of investors from abroad (Italy, Germany, Belgium, Greece) prefer Plovdiv..
For shopping: main street (walker zone) with a lot of shops, several new and modern big shopping centres with a bog choice of goods of good quality and price.
For entertainment: night bars, restaurants with “live” music, bowling hall, cafeterias. The choice is big: there is something for every taste and every age.
