Argentona is located in the Maresme, 33 km northeast from Barcelona and 4 km from Matarķ. In Argentona take place some well-known popular events, the most important of which is the Sant Domčnec feast, the summers Town Feast. One of the most amusing and emblematic games of this feast, which lasts 3 days, is the cāntir game (a cāntir is a typical receptacle made of clay used to carry liquid, mainly water); the game consists in rising each time a bigger cāntir and taking a sip while holding it up. During this feast there is also time for habaneras, orchestra balls, correfocs, sardanes, games
and, of course, many other entertaining activities carefully planned by the young of the city.
The cāntir market
Each summer, from August 4th to August 8th, takes place in Argentona the cāntir feast, the most traditional and interesting events of which take place on the morning of the Sant Domčnec day.
One of the most famous events is the renovation of the towns vow and the benediction of the waters of the Sant Domčnec fountain. Afterwards, its customary to drink water with aniseed in a newly made cāntir. Popular belief says that this water, drunk from a new cāntir, has positive effects on the drinkers health.
Each year, a traditional cāntir model is reproduced and a myriad of games related to water and cāntirs are celebrated. On these days there exhibitions and workshops are made, and also takes place in Argentona an international ceramics fair.
