Our house is an historic Edwardian building which was used as a bank, then a boarding house. It fell into disrepair before being restored to make a comfortable, liveable B&B. It is located in the village of Katoomba which means "place of the tumbling waters" in Aboriginal and is located within the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park to the west of Sydney. We are located in a quiet spot within an easy walk to the town centre where you will find many cafes and restaurants to choose from. Set off in the other direction and you will come to a breathtaking view of "Kiah" or beautiful place. Meander along a bush track to the Three Sisters and stop at the many lookouts to drink in the beauty of the bush and hear the tinkling of birds calling. There are many tracks to explore, each revealing its own wonders..waterfalls, forests, rock formations. If you are quiet and go early you may glimpse one of the shy bush creatures. There are many artists living in the Blue Mountains and you will find their work in the local galleries and coffee shops. Writers are also attracted to Katoomba, especially as we have a Writers' Centre called Varuna which fosters creative writing. There are some really excellent bookshops in Katoomba and Leura where you could spend hours browsing.
There are some interesting old buildings in town such as the Carrington, one of the first buildings to be built here.It is now a beautiful hotel where you can have a drink or dine in style. Several art deco buildings have been saved and restored and many of the old weatherboard mountain homes are also being restored.
We have a theatre/ restaurant where there are often high profile performers of jazz, folk or pop music. There is a cinema which shows current flicks as well as an Imax film on the Blue mountains wilderness " The Edge". This is well worth seeing. |
