On the far northern border of South Africa, adjacent to Botswana, lies the stark, enchanting beauty of the Groot Marico. Not only is this now home to South Africa’s fourth largest game reserve, but is here that Tau Game Lodge is situated.
Tau – place of the lion – is located in the heart of the 75 000 hectare Madikwe Reserve. This malaria-free Reserve has been restored to its original rugged beauty and ecological diversity with the re-introduction of over 10 000 head of game in what has been the world’s largest game relocation programme, called Operation Phoenix.
All the “big Five” – Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion and Leopard – now abound amongst the dramatic ridges of the Dwarsberg Mountains and Tshwene-Tshwene hills.

The Madikwe Reserve boasts complex and diverse habitats and ecosystems. There are 27 species of mammals to be seen, including black and white rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo, cheetah and even the endangered wild dog. Twice daily, your expert guide will take you on a game viewing drive in an open 4x4 vehicle to let you experience Madikwe’s many wonders.

| Check in time is 13h00 and check-out time is 10h00. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, all safaris, teas/coffees and drinks/snacks on game drive is included in the rate. The rate is a per person sharing rate. Children between the ages of 6-11yrs are charged half the rate and children under 6yrs are complimentary when sharing with their parents (they can unfortunately not go on standard safaris). |
